Default Fork Brace?

Hey everyone! Just wanted to talk about fork braces for a moment..
My old 74 250 had a fork brace mounted on it, and I want to get one for my '76 model. However, i see no mounting holes. Is there any type of modification needed for this or do i need to swap out forks that do have the mounting holes?Im still having trouble finding new springs for a fork rebuild, so maybe swapping forks for a different year makes sense..

I have one on my '74 dt125 and it does seem to make it ride more firmly. Of course,I weigh 270,and every thing I can do to help is good. I use automatic transmission fluid as fork oil,since it is for hydraulics. Not sure which model will attach the braces,but Fleabay is a good place to start,and someone here will know much more than I which will work.

Yeah, Im 6'2" and 210 and even though the bike rides well, I'd love to have more support up front.
I looked at some old pictures of my 74 dt and the fork legs have obvious mounting holes made for a fender of fork brace.
Ive seen some pictures of fork brace on a '76 with some type of mounting brackets. Seems kinda silly they did away with them....

I think the lower legs that have a mounting point, tab, or bracket that a fork brace was then bolted to 'back in the day' were originally intended as mounting points for the front fender. Initially the front fenders were mounted low, closer to the front tire. As the bikes got ridden in muddy conditions it was found/thought that mud would pack in around the front tire and impede progress, and people started mounting the fenders higher up (enter Preston Petty).

As the manufacturers realized that this was an attractive 'feature' for the bikes they also started mounting the front fenders higher. As they redesigned the front forks, the lower legs lost those redundant tabs.

I have seen fork braces that simply have a couple of holes drilled either side of the leg, allowing for a clamp to be bolted around the leg and hold the brace in place. I suppose one might shift a bit in use, but overall if you made checking that hardware along with all the rest on the bike as part of your service routine, they should work ok. I know I have seen this type on fleabay.
